Description

The Birmingham Guild's hex bar, with the rose at its centre.

A hexagonal-section bar in solid brass — six flat facets running its length, hand-hammered along every face — interrupted at the centre by a smooth octagonal pad that carries the chased five-petal Tudor rose. The bar is mounted on small octagonal posts that echo the geometry of the Guild Octagonal Knob, tying the kitchen specification together.

The rose is the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft's own hallmark, recovered for a new generation of Birmingham brass. Three centre sizes for the kitchen: 128mm for cabinet doors and shallow drawers, 192mm for standard drawers, 320mm for deep drawers and appliance panels.

Sand-cast in solid English brass. Hex bar planished by hand across all six facets. Centre pad smooth and unhammered, carrying the chased rose. Cast from a single hand-carved master pattern shared across the Guild line. Finished by a single craftsperson, start to stamp.

Finish notes

Polished Unlacquered Brass develops a soft amber patina over years; the hammered facets and the rose recess gather the patina in interesting ways. Aged Brass arrives pre-darkened. Satin Brass is brushed and lacquered for a stable warm gold.

Care & Maintenance

Solid brass is a living material. How to care for each finish depends on which one you have chosen.

Polished Unlacquered Brass — wipe with a dry cotton cloth. That is the entire routine. Avoid Brasso, Bar Keepers Friend, ammonia, bleach, vinegar; all will strip the patina. The metal will darken over months and brighten where touched. This is the point.

Aged Brass — wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Re-wax once every two to three years with natural beeswax.

Satin Brass (lacquered) — wipe with a damp cloth and dry. Avoid solvents and abrasives.
